Doug, can you get the OS 0.70 sized engine and will it fit where my 0.50 is now??

I want to put this into my 5 blade heli.

If the above is true, what is your price for engine and muffler?

Thank you:D

Will it fit? I don't think so. It was designed to replace "60" size engines. Here's the specs:

SPECS: Displacement: 11.50cc (.702cu in)
Bore: 25.8mm (1.016in) Stroke: 22.0mm (.866")
Power Output: 2.5HP at 16,000 RPM Weight: 553.5g (19.5oz)
Practical RPM Range: 2,000 - 18,000 RPM
Crankshaft Thread Size: 5/16-24
Length: 81.3mm Backplate to the front of the crankcase
Width: 42.6mm width of engine neglecting the mounting flanges
25mm distance between mounting hole centers
60mm Distance from rear mount to front mount centers
52mm Side to side centers of rear mounting holes
42mm Side to side centers of foremost mounting holes
42mm distance between mounting holes for exhaust

Specs for OS 55HZ:
Distance/top of cylinder head-bottom of mounting tabs: 2.8" (72.6mm)
Distance between mounting holes same side: 0.68" (17.5mm)
Distance between mounting holes opposite side: 1.73" (44mm)
Distance between muffler mounting holes: 1.4" (37mm)
Cylinder Head Diameter: 1.8" (47mm)
Distance/bottom of crankcase to top of cylinder head: 3.6" (90.9mm)
Distance from center of engine to front bearing: 2.03" (51.6mm)
Distance from center of engine to end of Crankshaft: 3.2" (82.6mm)
Distance from center of engine to backplate bolt: 0.98" (25mm)
Distance from center of engine to throttle lever: 1.5" (38mm)

They don't give the same measurements on the case so I measured a 55 here.

OS 70: Length: 81.3mm Backplate to the front of the crankcase

OS 55: 73.3mm

I suppose it depends on if the extra length would be sticking out the bottom of the helicopter, or pushing your fan higher. .. I'm guessing the latter.

So it looks like a 55 size is what I could use. I read it is suppoesed to replace a 60 sized engine.

I'll do some more thinking and get back to you.

KME makes a 60 that bolts in. Kinda spendy, but pretty (machined billet). Supposedly runs like a raped ape!

Raped apes put out a lot of power? :)

I will check them out Ron, thanks.:D

I have always loved anything that goes like a raped ape:D:cool::eek:

Get the 55 so you have the nice 3 needle carb.

I thought about that, but I hate adjusting needle valves:D

I agree but it's easier with the 3 Needle carb since the needles interact with each other less.

I wouldn't call that entirely accurate, go tune a ys and tell me they don't interact :).

 Whats wrong with those YS people :p

Maybe I'll just run 50%-70% nitro and see how that goes;)

Did you ever get it geared so your in the power band of the OS 50?

You need to gear it so the motors at about 17,000 RPM a little over even so when you loose headspeed you fall into the peak of the power band.

SPECS: Output: 1.9ps/17,000 RPM
Practical RPM Range: 2,000-20,000 RPM

You could allso man up and put a governor on it. :p

Unless I goofed something up on my setup, the engine is now running at WOT.. I went with the deepest gear ratio I could get. I think it's 8.9:1. I just don't think the engine has the power to turn those 5 blades fast enough to get into it's power band. You can hear it bog when it lifts off:o

Have you tried removing 3 of the blades to make sure

;) You can show me tommorow maybe. I promise I won't play with the throttle curve in your radio :p

Maybe I killed the motor before you got it.

I did but it danced all over the place;)

Hopefully it will be nice tomorrow and I can show you.:)

I was gonna say, how can you fly 2 blades on a 5 bladed setup lol.

Seems to me that's what everybody from business to government to households are saying these days: "Do more with Less" :arrrggghhh:

Maybe I should just fly with one blade;)

Going to try upping the nitro amount I feed it before buying a bigger engine.:)
