Our first membership meeting will be on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. Please plan on attending, as there will be plenty to discuss and go over! We will announce the location at a later date.
Also, if you pay your first membership dues before May 1st, we will waive the $25 initiation fee.

Ouch
Thats same as Grassfield for us old guys and a ready to run field
I will have to think about this some as closer to home but getting to a cost to facilities factor
I will await till meeting and see
Thanks
While we'd like to offer membership for less there are a lot of costs involved with developing the land the club has acquired.
50 dollars is pretty reasonable considering a gallon of heli fuel is around 30-33 dollars, and that gallon won't last 12 months. It's all relative I guess.

Yes I understand cost and why RC of all types are not spending as they can't afford to as before ,Its just a little hard to spend money at same level for unimproved as it is for finished playing field .
I will await and check out all before I comment as cost of Nat and Local fees is getting to be a tight cost now days.

you also have to look at field size and what you are getting for the $50
at 3drc you can camp, nightfly, indoor fly, etc.... and you have the biggest flying field I have seen besides the ama headquarters!
these are all thing you cant get form any other club around
1st year at Grassfield is $80. It's a fantastic club with great support (the largest membership in the north metro) and is well worth it. $50 seems dirt cheap to me because the field is convenient and caters to the kind of flying I like. This club and field isn't for everyone. There's a lot of start up expense and work the first few years.

Hey Chuck. The meeting will be held at Grace Life church in Anoka where we've been flying indoors. Thanks for the reminder, a formal thread is in order.

Where will the Feb 3rd meeting take place? Oops - I got the answer. Thanks Doug.
Chuck
i am new to this can you tell me what is ama, and all the costs to join this club.
AMA is the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
https://www.modelaircraft.org/joinrenew.aspx
They provide insurance coverage to clubs and members which is required to fly at most, if not all flying fields. You'll have to check that link to see what it costs as it depends on your age and what you want to fly, and if you want the magazine.

Can I join the club if I haven't received my AMA membership number yet? I have applied and I am just waiting to get my cards and stuff.
I'm not sure, but you should be able to email or call them and have confirmation email or faxed back that can be attached to your application.

What about help for building the flying field and structures? Do you need volunteers, or is this being done by the land owner?

The meeting on Feb. 3rd will be at Grace Life church in Anoka, MN. 7:00 pm is the starting time with open flying after the meeting.
I have done a poor job lately as far as organizing this stuff. I promise it will get better over the next couple of weeks!

Great questions, and I'm excited to see people asking about it. These are all things we will discuss on these forums and at the meetings over the next few months. We have some time before final decisions are made, and we plan to thoroughly hash out the best system possible.

Great, quite the turnout. The count was 23 or 24. This is going to be a good thing :).

You guys (committee) did a great job. Turn out was far better than I had expected not that I knew what to expect  Hope I didn't make you nervous with the CX2. I was pretty confident in your flying ability and the CX2 is a snail so I just kinda fell into the pattern you were flying for a minute.
Thats the largest area I've ever flown my heli's in.
Hope you can make it to a few of the Sunday night indoor sessions.

I second MikeB's statement. Great job by all. Sounds like it will be a fun, and busy summer.
