View Full Version : DX6i verses JR9303 setup questions.

I just sat down to try and setup my new 9303 trans to my Blade 400. I have been flying the 400 with a DX6i and everything was setup fine.

Question 1: Would it be normal to have to add lots of subtrim to get the servos back to the original 90 setup? I used Finless video to setup the servo directions and that is all working correctly. But his video is on a new heli, mine is an existing, working, flying one.

Question 2: Do I need to redo all my servo arms?

Question 3: If all servos center at a 1.5 ms pulse width, and all transmiter trims are centered, why don't the servos center also?

Thanks for any feedback.:)

you may just need to recenter the servos...sure the throttle is at 50%?
all links should be the same, so recentering shouldnt be bad

Also make sure you have a linear pitch and throttle curve (0-100%) when your center your servos and when you set up your speed control.

Are you using the stock servo arms? If so then subtrim is hit and miss as they only have one arm. Put the pitch to 50% in and out as shown in your new and improved pitch curve screen to find center stick.

It is not uncommon for servo's to center slightly different from radio to radio. I have seen this many times when switching radios.

Yep and center at a 1.5 ms pulse width will not gereally come out to a 90 degree arm since all servo's center to a slightly different spot and even have different throws than each other. Which is why you set your ATV +/- to level the swash at full positive and negative pitch.

Basically you just need to set the radio to 0 actoss the board (pitch, subtrim,etc.). Set your ATV's to +100/-100.

Bind your transmitter.

Reprogram your ESC with the linear throttle curve.

Attatch the arms with the servo's centered by the transmitter. Sub trim to 90. Level your swash at 0. Set your + and minus pitch to their max values with the swash mix(pitch) and check with a gauge. Set your swash level at full pitch in both directions with Servo ATV's. Set your cyclic pitch to about 8 degree's with the swash mix (ail/elv). Check for binding.

If your swash mix is over 65% then take it down 5-10 points and extend your ATV's out to compensate. Higher ATV's are better than high swash mixing values.

Add Expo and set/check your throttle and pitch curves.

Check your gyro direction(Sensor & stick input) and gain.

REBIND YOUR TRANSMITTER! to set the failsafe servo positions.

Recheck EVERYTHING (that I forgot to mention) and go fly.

I think it also helps to be awake. Now that I am at work and not in front of the heli I have been thinking, and I think my stick was not at center when I looked at the servo arms. It did seem to have the correct amount of pitch range so it is probably good.

All the other info you guys have given I will check out tonight. Some things I did look at, like linear setup. The ATV stuff I have never used on anything yet.

I usually wake up around 11:00 while at work. This is why I should only work from 6 - 10 every morning, then go home and do heli stuff from 11 am to 10 pm while I am awake, and before my brain shuts off for the night.

Thanks guys for all the info and the help.:D:D

While your at work you should have your computer downloading all the cool Finless setup videos everyone talks about ;)

How do I reprogram the gear switch (or whichever one I need) to be my gyro gain control? I ask because I am using the AR6100 that came with the Blade 400.

I am sure it is in the manual somewhere, but I have not figured it out yet.

hold the ENT button while powering up the radio to access the setup menu. From there go to DeviceSEL and you should see it.

Um was it the 9303 that won't let you use the gyro menu when using a 6channer receiver? Gyro is set by the ATV values if thats the case.

Here's the skinny. Eric was correct on the stick not being centered. That fixed my first issue. All the servos centered fine. That was nice too.:D

Then I thought I needed to use the gear switch to control gyro gain because, on the AR6100 the gyro gain connects to chan 5. I was correct, but I was not smart enough to figure out how to make it work. Today I went to HeliFreak and found my answer.:)

I do need to use the gear switch as I thought, and all I have to do is adjust the endpoints down to the gyro gain percent I want, i.e. +60%. that will put the gyro in heading hold mode just as if I was using my original DX6i setup. For rate settings just set the -xx% value to what I want, and go fly. Now I can switch between gains just as I did before.

The 9303 seems to have more brain power than I do:doh:, but I sure do like it:D

Hope all that made sense to any newcomers that might be surfing through. If not here is the link to where I found this great info -> www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=51744
