I am thinking of replacing the engine on my trainer. It has an AP .09 on it now. It does ok but can be hard to start and leaks fuel. I also hit one of the fence poles at the field (on a dead stick landing) and damaged the carb. I'm thinking of replacing it with a .15 or so rather than fixing it. The plane is a high wing trainer with ~50" wingspan, currently running 3 channels. See it here:

I am planning on adding ailerons, possibly with flaps. With the AP .09 it eighs in at ~2.5 lbs full of fuel.
I am looking for recommendations for a good running engine. Price is a consideration of course but an engine that won't run good is no bargain.

Steve (BrokenRotor) said he had good luck with an OS 15.

Electric is an option as well.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

os.15 la runs okay. very popular among the combat boys.

More importantly though, what are you doing hitting our new poles?

Well, I just didn't want Eric to feel left out.

I'm gettin' 0ld and my depth perception is not what it used to be. I was dead sticking to the south. I swerved what I thought was beyond the fence but . . . PING!

Not near as spectacular as Eric's pole incedent.

So you say the OS 15 runs "Okay". That doesn't sound convincing to me. Do you recommend it or should I look at something else?

Naw the OS .15 is pretty much the only way to go for that size. Good price. There are different engines but you wouldn't notice a difference on that plane. I said okay because I was tired and feel like ugh.... Tons of drive time lately and all the fast food is getting to me. Finally get to spend a couple days in the office.

Doug has an OS .15 in the shop. I'm sure he would be happy to sell it to you.

I have never heard anyone complain about any OS engine.

As others have said - the OS .15 would be a good choice. I've flown OS 2-strokes for decades. They're very well-built. I've never had a problem with any of the OS 2-strokes I've owned.
