Well big news confirmed today, we now have access to the National Sports Center for Indoor flying this season!!! 30' ceilings, and even half a field has about twice the space of the church. This is BIG news and should be a great thing for this hobby in the cities. Very exciting...

Checkout the indoor flying forum here for more info:

The Committee

Thats exciting news. As far as flying helis, will a 500 size electric be allowed ? I understand that may be pushing the envelope.
Thanks

Good work !

Good question; we'll probably draw up some loose requirements. The 450/500 size will be out, it would cause too much damage to the expensive nets, windows, etc.

If we don't have enough people can we just pay more to make up for it?

If someone makes up flyer's I can help distribute them to the stores on the south side of town.

Pete, YES, and as we'll get flyers done next week and get them out.

Might have some exciting news about a new years eve event also... could be cool.

Ditto, I'd pay more than $5 specially if they allow 450's hehe. I'd be happy with the 250 prolly. Maybe require a certail proficiency level for the 450+ heli's. I can see how a 500 might eat a few foamies. Thats alot of air flow compared to a 250/450.

450 class will not be an option. At all. Sorry, it is what it is.

So what's the limit, 300 class and smaller?

mflander

Yep.

450 class can cause some serious damage to people and the facility. That is the reason we are not allowing them. We have not discussed allowing them at bigger events yet, but for the every week indoor flying you will be limited to 250 and smaller.

I figured as much but it never hurts to try to pressure people into things like that ;)

Is the Ricco in the 250 Class? or is it a 300 class.. thus won't be allowed...

The Ricco is allowed. Jake asked me to clarify that it is 300 class and lower. This allows CP's, etc...

I have hard plastic blades on my CP.

Did anyone make up flyers yet?

I will get to it this weekend. We went and flew there last night as a trial run and got some good pictures and videos. I'll use them to make the flyers.

I'd like to add that is AWESOME and huge and going to be so much fun. The Parkzone P-51 flies sweet in there, Eric Castrodale flew his several flights; there's plenty of room to do nice scale .40 sized circuits, and you can punch the throttle on the straights for some exciting "speed" runs :)

It's gonna be fun :D

Also, we have been approved to have an event on New Years Eve at the sports center. Not sure what the time slot is going to be at this point, if you have suggestions let me know. We are going to need some effort from our members on this event, as I would like it to have a huge turnout. Again, more details next week, but just start thinking about it. Start a separate thread for brainstorming idea's now if you like.

I am definitely looking forward to flying in the Sports center but as far as the New Years Eve event, I'm sorry to say, I would not be able to make it. We usually get together with friends or family to ring in the new year. I could still have event shirts made up, if event shirts are wanted, but I would have to send them with someone that is going. I would not be able to help out with this event.

So are most people planning to go?

Does the P 51 fly like the Sukoi?

mflander

There will not be a new years event this year. Not enough time to plan and things are too uncertain at this point.

The p-51 flies fast. It was a lot of fun(Erik let me fly his). Definitely a good plane!

Probably best for this year. It would be a short notice for many people, and most people have traditional plans for new years.

I think it is something to try for next year with a much sooner notice.:)

I've wondered that myself.

I've talked to two people who fly the P-51 indoors; both said it's fast, perhaps too fast to control unless you have lots of room or are really on top of it. One also had the Sukhoi, and thought it was slower and easier to control than the Mustang.

Best way to charge batteries there? Will AC be available?

mflander

Plenty of AC.
