Kind of an old always updating project.
But after flying a Velocity the 600N was decommissioned. Stripped the electronics from the 600N and put together a flybarless 600E. Right now it's 8S powered. Got a chance to take it out today. Put a smile on my face. She honks like my 500 !
Possible upgrades.
Extended boom
12S Power
Metal head to handle RPM in the 2400-2500 range.
BTW got the new Castle BEC pro in this one. It can handle 12s. You can also configure the voltage output. I currently have it conservative @ 7v

Strobe, have you ever checked what your max current draw is from the BEC?
Steve
BTW, that thing sounds fun and I bet it rips big time. Glad to hear someone is getting some stick time.:)

No I have'nt. Not really sure how to other then what they're rated for.
But I do have (3) 8717's on cyclic, and they've proven to be pretty power hungry.
From the JR manual
Heli: T-Rex 600N
Servos: 3 - JR8717, 1 - 8900G (хвост), 1- 8317 газ
Li-po: 1 - 2100 mAh 2 cell 7.4 В LiPo
Engine - YS50
Flight style - aggressive 3D
Mean Current - 1.15 А
Max current - 3.3 А
I think I remember reading that 8717's can draw up to 3amps each stalled. Normal usage is around 1amp or less
Max draw on the BEC pro is 20amps
All jiberish to me:doh:
I'd be happy to bring the setup over to you if you ever want to check it out. I see your doing a build that this info interests you

Thanks Strobe.
I will use the 3 Amp stall current per servo and go from there.:)
It seems like that is a comon number with digital servos.

Looks amazing Strobe.
Wow, looks good Strobe :)

Hehe...worked on the 12s setup today. Plugged in the batterys to start checking electronics (No magic smoke) !
Yep...get a nice electrical snap plugging in those batterys !

12S is just about ready to fly. Some of the reasoning behind this build was to be able to run 2 turnigy 40C 6S packs. I can also swap the packs between the 600 and 500. Turnigy packs are pretty cheap so I figure it's a cheap way to keep in packs for the summer.
Besides 12S should be fun !
You just want to go fast. :):rip:

I've been able to get some flight time on this heli. I settled on Hyperion VX 2600 6S packs to build the 12S setup. 2600mah is probably a little light on the mah capacity. Opinions vary ! 4 min flights are good enough for me.
Had a chance to tach the headpeed today. The headspeed is really deceiving by ear. Calculations indicated I was at 2500RPM @ 100%
It just did'nt sound that fast. But it was correct.
It had a lot of wow factor and was a blast to fly. This is the most powerfull heli I've flown. I know others are running this kind of headspeed. Dropping the headspeed just plain made it boring :arrrggghhh:
It'll be interesting to see how these Hyperions hold up.

Governor mode is way cool ! I've never setup an electric using governor. Did'nt know how  Always used flat line curves. ;) I've been reading the new castle software is a much better governor mode. Version 3.2
Anyways I set up my 600 today using the set RPM governor mode. Very easy. Set your cell count, gear ratio, motor Kv, magnetic poles and your set to go. Then you can set 3 different RPMs for idle up modes. Normal now can be an idle up mode. Because of the soft start feature you use can use throttle hold to spool up and shut down, hence 3 idle up modes if you want! I set up for 2100, 2200 and 2300 for my desired headspeeds.
Flew a couple flights today and it's freakin awesome, I learned something new. It's really nice to maintain constant headspeed for the entire flight. Got plenty of power to prevent bogging ;)
Anyhow just sharing

Yeah the governor mode is pretty sweet. I was running it on my 450 with the CC Pheonix 60 with the scorpion. Only issue I had was that it would over speed the head something wicked when going to a hover after a full collective punch out. My gear was too high I think but set rpm mode would hit my requested RPM with a lower gear.

Pretty cool Strobe. Always nice to learn something new and useful in this hobby.
Larry the scale guy has his stuff set up that way. I'll admit the first time I met him he showed me his MD500 heli, had the throttle stick at mid stick and released the throttle hold. I was ready to run, but the heli just spooled up nice and slow.
Very cool indeed.:D

Great day to fly today ! I was doing some rainbows and she exploded in the air. It was pretty cool. Must have lost a link or the blades just flexed enough for a boom strike. Anyhow 12S is a blast !
And more important... the new addition to the family. Olde English Bulldogge (Thats spelled correct ;) ). Named Spinelli

Cute puppy Strobe. I have a fear or popping links too, sorry to hear it. Link technology is falling behind the power/headspeed I think.

Wish I knew for sure what the cause was. The Mikado links are pretty beefy. And yep that flight I was running 2300 headspeed.
Doug P was watching my flights and was amazed how much blade flex can be seen in some manuvers. I wonder if it was a combination of blade flex, boom flex and it was kinda windy. Anyhow time to rebuild !

Sorry to hear and see that Strobe.:rip: Must have been something in the air. I had some Radikal issues too.
