Thumbs up Oil madness

I have some lawnboy ashless you can have that would work for a gallon or two for break-in, then switch it over to synthetic.

You can't find a specific oil zenoah recommends?
This is from the Zenoah manual "F3C or ISO EGC grade". That's it. no brand name or anything else.

I have been wating for you or Doug to chime in as you both have done this before. What's the matter, you guys got jobs or something getting in the way, he-he..

I did call Pro Power Sports this morning and they have the stuff that Billme (who is somehow connected with Century) said to use. I will be picking some up tonight.

What I found frustrating is none of the 6 - 8 brands of oil I looked had that grade rating on them. Some of them had a "TW" or simular marking. Problem is I am not a petro chem engineer so those letters did nothing for me.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I did know not to use synthetic for break-in, but that's about all I knew

Finally found some oil tonight. Now I need to go over the setup of throttle and pitch curves, check blade tracking, charge batteries, and give it a whirl. Can't wait

Oh yeah. I am having some muffler canopy clearance issues to resolve yet, then I will be ready.

All I need now is an air filter for it. I am done yet

Just glad I am not in a hurry to get this thing done.

Steve, one last piece of advice. You don't tune a gasser like a glow engine. It isn't good to run it rich, you get carbon build up and a significant power loss in comparison to its glow brothers. It also won't break in properly running rich.

You also don't want to go excessively lean, but I would rather see you a tad lean than too rich. Just start at factory settings and go a little bit leaner until the hesitation and burble goes away. Then fly the snot out of it.

with a fourstroke motor the no synthetic rule for breakin applies for 2 stroke we go synthetic right out of the box in the power sports industry.there's no way i would put non synthetic oil in any 2stroke that had any kinda performance.lawnmower, weedeater sure, but a motor turning 14000 rpm no way, sounds like a good way to take the crank out.

Default Crazy Oil Specs.

Good find Mike. At least there are a couple JASO letters I remember seeing on the bottles. Now I cna check mine when I get home.

Now I just need to get the radio setup, check blade pitch and make sure there is no binding, and fire it up.

I am charging batteries right now, and they should be ready by the time I get home.

Could be the sounds of a gasser running at my place tonight.

Smile First start this Friday night??

I think I have everthing ready to to give it it's first start up tomorrow night.

I was going to use a 2S1P 3300mA lipo for this first start and run up, but something has happened to the battery and it won't charge. Charger says one cell is too high. My DMM says otherwise, but I guess the charger wins. So I will be using my NiMH pack I made, which now I wish it was a seven cell pack It will be fine as I will not be flying it yet tomorrow.

I still have some questions about setup. The manual kinda sucks IMO in that area, and a couple others. I plan to make a list and post them here later for the next guy in our club who buys one of these.

I bought one piece of bling that should be here in a day or so. I will post photo when installed.

All in all it has been a pretty good build. If you read all the instructions, twice, it goes together pretty well. From what I have read most everyone seems to really like this heli. Hope I do too.

Only one photo tonight. Gotta go beat up that lipo until I win!!!

Talking First break-in tank is completed

Oh now Mike I can't go and spill the beans just yet. I need to get it mounted first.

First tank of GAS is through the Radikal. Had a little trouble with my 33 year old starter being able to turn it over using my 3S1P 3300mA lipo so I hooked it to my deep cycle camper battery. Come to think of it, that lipo has started all 28 flights of my Hirobo with out being charged, mmmmm, not bad. Guess I will charge it now.

Anyway, the little gasser turned over a few times and popped right off. I turned the trim down a smidge and it sat there and ran beautifully. For 15 minutes it idled just like the Century guy (Billme) said. Then at the 15 minute mark it was time to rev it up to 1700 rotor RPMs. That was a little nerve racking I will admit. I held it down with a 2x4, a dead battery, and beer. This was done until the tank went empty. I didn't like the idea of holding it down, but I also didn't like what some of the alternatives could be. Was probably a good stress test for it. And yes the blades were set to 0 degrees pitch.

Now for the next galon I run 25:1, then on galon #2 it can go to 32:1 mixture.

The little engine ran great without a hint of issues. Hope it goes like that for many, many years.

A photo of my redneck heli holder.
