I've heard of too many cases where the baloon doesn't pop, then goes between the blades and boom, things start to happen then.

So anyone doing that, be careful.

Talking Event ideas explained somewhat.

Basic event idea as I have seen for advanced, and I am making up for the beginners.

Intermediate/Advanced Events:
1) Balloon chase/pop would be a balloon filled with something lighter than air, your heli on the ground spooled up and ready for lift off. Someone lets go of the balloon and when it is 50 - 100 feet in the air you take off after it and try to pop it. You could time how long it takes, or just see if you can do it at all. Fun to watch on a windy day.

2) Drag race is pretty simple, two helis, a starter, a finish line. Spool up and wait for starter to drop thier arms. Just like on Speed Channel's show "Pinks".

3) No name yet -------- You simply try to fly between two balsa rods that are spaced very close to your rotor diameter.

4) Spot auto landing. You guys who have been to events can probably speek on this one. Otherwise you get up to thirty seconds to climb up and start your auto. You must be at least 250 feet high (maybe higher, I don't know. I can't auto) and try to land on a marked landing pad that scores the closer you are to center.

Beginner Events:
1) Ring pickup and/or drop off. Here we have four to six poles in the ground at various hieghts with a plastic ring sitting on top. You can either fly a pattern to pick them up, or just pick them as you want. You have three minutes for beginner (one and a half for intermediate/advanced) from the second your skid leaves the ground. You use your skids to pick up all the rings and fly back to the starting point. You can use time and number of rings to score points.

2) Spot Landing. You have thirty seconds from the time your skids leave the ground to fly over thirty feet and land on the scored landing pad. You only get to set down once and that is it. Where it lands you stay. The closer to center the more points you get.

That is my two cents worth. Enjoy.

If you get a balloon stuck in your boom you may get to try the spot auto contest without even entering.

Great post BrokenRotor! I like all of the ideas.

#3 could be called "field goal flght" or "heli punt" etc

We might theme some of these for halloween/fall, like hooking a mini pumpkin with a ring stuck in it

Not sure if we plan to use this event as a fund raiser, I think we should, but myself and teesco (Ed) will volunteer to cook burgers and brats. I think we should do like SPRC club did. A burger/brat and bag of chips for $5, water/pop for a $1. I think it would be a great way to bring the club some money.

Is this event going to be advertised to other clubs and such?

Gotta go practice my ring pick up. It's harder than you think.

That's a good idea. BrokenRotor and I were talking about whether or not we should add candy bars or something but Bake sale items would sell better, I think.

Was wondering if there was going to be a hover area for beginners?

I have a 'friend' that would like to come and last night was his first solo hover..

Eric save your comments!
